Structure of the McCusker Foundation
The McCusker Foundation comprises three aspects.
- Administration - includes fund raising and promotion;
- Research - administered by Edith Cowan University under a partnership agreement; and
- Clinical Trials division - conducts clinical trials
of potential treatments on contract to drug companies.
It is managed by a Board comprised of volunteers with an interest in
the elimination of Alzheimer's disease, with support from a full time
Executive Manager and a part time Administrative Assistant, who comprise the administration.
The Clinical Trials Division employs three part time staff to conduct the trials.
Board Members
Board members receive no remuneration for their involvement. They are
actively involved in the key tasks of fund raising and promotion.
The current Board members are:
- Mr Graham Nixon (Chairman) - Farmer with extensive experience on Boards of management.
- Dr Terry Bayliss (Deputy Chair, Hollywood Private Hospital
representative) - Manager Development Projects and Research, Hollywood Private Hospital.
- Professor Ralph Martins (Director of Research) -
Inaugural Chair Alzheimer's and Ageing at Edith Cowan University, Associate Professor at UWA.
- Associate Professor David Groth (Representative Scientific
Advisory Committee) - Associate Professor at Curtin University of Technology.
- Mr Enzo Sirna AM - President Italo-Australian Welfare and Cultural Centre.
- Mr David McIntyre - Managing Director McIntyre Management & Marketing.
- Ms Ricky Burges - Chief Executive Officer, West Australian Local Government Association.
- Emeritus Professor Patrick Garnett - Emeritus
Professor and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Operations) at Edith Cowan University.
- Ms Jenny Day - Executive Officer of the Community Development Foundation.
- Ms Deborah Doncon - former CEO of and Board Member of several not for profit organisations.
- Mr Rob Davies - Accountant, actively involved in fundraising for the Foundation through the Lions Club of Bull Creek.
- Mr Larry Lopez – venture capitalist with extensive commercial experience.
Sub committees of the Board
There are two sub committees:
- Fund raising sub committee develops the strategic
fund raising strategies and annual fund raising plan, and assists with fund raising and promotion.
- Investment sub committee advises
on and undertakes investments on behalf of the Board.
The McCusker Foundation is very reliant on the support of volunteers
and other organisations such as the Lions Clubs of WA to promote the
research and to conduct fund raising events on behalf of the Foundation.
